The city of Santa Monica has been hit with a significant setback in its lawsuit against Waymo, as a California court has ruled the company can continue to charge their vehicles overnight. This has led to intense pushback from the community, who are shocked to see parking lots used to park vehicles overnight.
“When I bought my home next to a parking lot, I never thought they would actually use it as a parking lot,” said Toby Albright, a homeowner neighboring the lot in question; “take me back to the good old days, when people would rip donuts in their diesel trucks all night, not recharge their silent EV’s.”
Despite the millions already invested in this suit, Santa Monica faces an uphill battle: Waymo already completed the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) necessary for this project before operations began, and fell below all noise pollution thresholds. Every beep and squeal has already been accounted for, severely limiting the city’s legal recourse.
Whatever the outcome may be, residents can rest assured that their tax dollars are being spent wisely – fighting infrastructure development.
